Avalanche Software, the developer behind the hugely successful and popular, Hogwarts Legacy, is currently seeking a World Lead Designer for an unnamed “online multiplayer RPG,” with live-service experience touted as a nice to have for hopeful candidates. There have previously been reports that Hogwarts Legacy 2 might incorporate online mechanics, so this could possibly be another hint.

The job listing doesn’t name Hogwarts Legacy 2 or any other game, it just says, “As a Lead Designer, World for our Online Multiplayer RPG, you will spearhead the design and implementation of a cohesive vision for the game’s world and playable spaces… [collaborating] closely with the Game and Design Directors, as well as Narrative and Art Directors to oversee and implement the strategic integration of various activity models, types of gameplay, types of environments, game systems, world navigation UX, and narrative design”.

As for qualifications, Avalanche and Warner Bros. are seeking someone with “7+ years of experience in game design, with at least 3-5+ years leading or owning major online multiplayer game spaces and systems”. Again, there’s no mention of Hogwarts Legacy, but it’s remarked that the candidate needs “Management experience working with AAA quality design cross functional teams”. Live-service experience isn’t listed amongst the essentials, but it is listed as a nice to have.

Avalanche Software Reportedly Working on Hogwarts Legacy 2

There is no official announcement for Hogwarts Legacy 2 so far, but Warner Bros. told Variety in 2024 that a “successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road”. Jason Schreier also reported for Bloomberg that Avalanche Software is working on a sequel (via PushSquare).

No official details about the sequel have been provided, but it’s been rumored since July this year that there might be online multiplayer elements. This is because of previous Avalanche Software job listings seeking a Lead Narrative Designer that can “craft narratives that adapt to multiplayer frameworks”. This same job listing suggested Avalanche Software is aiming to have “dynamic dialog that responds to player actions and interactions in real-time multiplayer settings”.

It’s possible these job listings might not be for Hogwarts Legacy 2, but that seems the obvious project as it’s one of Warner Bros.’ biggest priorities. Plus, it’s the only title Avalanche Software are reportedly developing. If Hogwarts Legacy 2 has online multiplayer, it could be fantastic provided it’s optional. Being able to explore the legendary school of witchcraft and wizardry with friends sounds fantastic on paper, and there’s also other possibilities such as being able to play competitive Quidditch without having to access a separate spin-off game.

There’s no release window for Hogwarts Legacy 2 and fans shouldn’t expect it to come out anytime before at least 2027. Hopefully there’s a glimmer of hope we might get an announcement at Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, but even that might be too soon.
