MCV reports that the official European launch of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King proved a huge success, having attracted 2,500 fans all desperate to get their hands on the second WoW expansion.

Fans were queueing from as early as 6pm on Monday outside HMV’s flagship Oxford Street store, some in full costume, to ensure they were part of the launch night celebrations. In addition to meeting fellow WoW players from all over Europe, fans also got the chance to meet Blizzard COO Paul Sams and take home signed copies of the highly anticipated expansion.

“This franchise is absolutely huge, and just keeps getting bigger and better,” enthused HMV’s head of games, Tim Ellis. “It’s also perfect for HMV as it brings together the idea of physical product with online gaming – which is a space that we’re increasingly looking to moving into. This is a heavyweight title, which will, undoubtedly, go on to be a big seller in the run up to Christmas and beyond.”
