Hitman Absolution’s Contracts mode will no longer require an online pass to access.

A single-use ‘Contracts Pass Code’ – provided with new copies of the game – was initially required to access the mode, which lets players create their own hits and challenge friends to achieve a high score.

However, the pass will now be free to download.

“We’d actually planned to have this mode accessible via a code in the game’s box,” reads a post on the official Hitman Absolution Tumblr, “but we really want to make it available to anybody that plays the game – so we want to take a new approach.

North American gamers will be able to access the mode straight from the main menu.

Elsewhere in the world, however, players will have to download the Contracts Pass either by redeeming the code in the box, or downloading it for free from Xbox LIVE Marketplace or PlayStation Store.

Hitman Absolution releases tomorrow on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. You might want to think wisely before putting it on your Christmas list, though. We weren’t particularly impressed when we took 47’s latest out for a spin.
