Baldur’s Gate 3 has some of the best characters, storylines and romance of any video game. One of the all-time best moments in the game was ad-libbed by Astarion actor Neil Newbon, but that doesn’t mean the brilliant actor was without direction.
In fact, fans searching through the internal game files for Baldur’s Gate 3 have discovered internal development notes relating to Astarion’s actor telling him to, well, be less “horny”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Astarion dev notes
Shared by fans on Reddit, looking through the Baldur’s Gate 3 toolkit shows numerous developer notes for specific lines and scenes.
The romance scene between Tav and Astarion after stopping Cazador’s ritual has a very specific developer note for Neil Newbon. When Astarion says, “It’s time to try living again, with everything that life has to offer”, the developer notes warn Newbon to make the line less “horny”.
“Slightly horny,” reads the dev note with an added all-caps “ONLY SLIGHTLY, NEIL”.
Multiple Baldur’s Gate 3 modders corroborated the scene’s direction as well. Using the Moonglasses editor kit to modify dialogue scenes, many modders immediately searched to find the same mention of Newbon’s excitement.
“You know, thinking about the delivery of this line, it was, in fact, slightly horny,” one fan said on Reddit. “Only slightly.”
Alongside toying with dialogue scenes, Baldur’s Gate 3 modders are making great use of cracked mod tools to create massive new fan expansions for the game. One of the game’s biggest mods even plans to add six to eight new companions to the game for their own custom campaign.
With more modders looking through the game’s files, it’s possible there’s even more hilarious developer notes made for BG3. Will we ever find them? Well, we won’t, but some fan might. We’re busy.
