Battlefield V developer DICE has shed light as to why it's included a battle royale mode in the upcoming World War II shooter.

The studio confirmed yesterday evening at EA Play that the game will feature its own unique take on the popular game mode, which has found huge success in titles such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Speaking with GameSpot, DICE's Creative Director, Lars Gustavsson, revealed that the team are pretty big fans of battle royale in general, and the idea to include it in Battlefield V wasn't a suggestion from publisher Electronic Arts.

'I would be lying [if I said] there weren't people in the studio that would play [battle royale games] a lot,' said Gustavsson. 'We enjoy it. It's good fun, and it brings a new perspective.'

He added there was an 'extremely big push' from DICE as a company for the sequel to embrace battle royale. This comes not long after he revealed the game mode would be a 'natural fit' for Battlefield V.

Battlefield V is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19.
