Fighting through hordes of bugs and automatons to protect Super Earth may be fun, but some Helldivers 2 fans crave a stealthy approach. After months of battles, fans are growing tired of the game’s weak and busted stealth systems.
However, is Helldivers 2 stealth broken? Or are some players just bad at sneaking around?
Is Helldivers 2 stealth broken?
A popular thread on the Helldivers subreddit saw one fan propose the addition of more complex stealth mechanics to the game. While the original Helldivers did have some interesting stealth options, its sequel is considerably harder to sneak through.
“It would be nice if every freaking enemy on the map didn’t know exactly where I was regardless of cover, visibility, or distance,” one fan said. “I can not count the number of times I’ll be moving towards an objective and patrols will b-line for me even though I’m either hiding behind cover or actively avoiding them.”
A large portion of the community echoed this sentiment. While there are options designed to help assist stealth builds, many are convinced the game’s alert mechanics are broken.
“I hope they revamp the soft-alert system so that it is more intuitive,” said another. “Enemies that I am several hundred meters away from, and have never engaged should not be able to become alerted to my position, and enemies should not be able to figure out where I am when Eagle-1 or an orbital lands next to them if they did not see me throw the stratagem beacon.”
One of the biggest issues fans have dealt with is the fact that enemies become alerted to their positions following the use of an orbital strike. Despite being miles away from enemy patrols, bugs, automatons and more will still know where you are.
Stealth is absolutely an option
Despite some fan claims, stealth is absolutely still an option within Helldivers 2 and is one of the best ways of taking on automatons. While the stealth mechanics aren’t perfect, they are absolutely still a major part of the game.
“Stealth makes such a difference you don’t even know,” said another player. “The whole team playing with scout armor is stupidly easy and you can sneak past patrols that are very close. You just have to only ever play crouched or even with your face in the dirt like a true helldiver would.”
While stealth is flawed in Helldivers 2, it’s still a fun way to play the game. While it may not be a perfect experience, especially if you’re playing with a group of run-and-gunners, it’s worth giving a shot.
