Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, has told frustrated Helldivers 2 fans on Discord that the studio is “busting ass” to get the new patch out as soon as possible. This patch was previously confirmed for “mid-October,” leading the community to believe that it would arrive October 14th as patches typically drop on Tuesday. However, the update still isn’t out, and the community is becoming more impatient.
Jorjani still hasn’t shared exactly when the patch will drop, but has said Arrowhead “were hoping for this week but it’s looking like next”. This suggests we will get the update between October 20th to 24th, slightly later than originally planned.
As for what’s the hold up, the developer is “working super hard to get it out ASAP,” but at the same time they are “doing more testing than ever and plugging leaky holes”. The CEO also said this patch is taking longer because the “wonkyness of fixing 2 things and breaking 1 has to end”.
Unfortunately, as Arrowhead continue to work on the patch, more players are venting their frustrations on the game’s official subreddit. On Steam, a decline in players can also be seen with a peak of 87, 287 on September 21st dropping to 61,576 on October 4th and 35,111 by October 16th.
What’s Included in the Next Helldivers 2 Patch?
So far, there’s only a few things confirmed for the next Helldivers 2 update. Jorjani previously said Leviathans are expected to return following their unintended removal, and Arrowhead listed the following in their blog post:
- Some key crash fixes
- Fixed the Primary weapon/Side-arm audio that stops during a mission
- Minor performance improvements
- Long overdue bug fixes, like Charger footstep sounds (pretty useful) or weapon audio stopping mid mission
- No more landing on caves
- A Balance Pass (we’re unleashing Niklas & Lennart)
Now, on Discord, Shams Jorjani has confirmed extra details. While not sharing any specifics, the Arrowhead CEO teased the patch will “have a bunch of balancing that we think you’ll appreciate”. Arrowhead is also planning to upload a video discussing these changes.
Most importantly, the patch is expected to significantly improve performance. Not everything will be fixed at once though, and it will take time for Arrowhead to reduce the game’s humongous file size on PC.
Finally, Jorjani confirmed that this patch will have a “bunch of audio fixes,” and this is because “the audio update this summer really did a number on our audio”.
Once this update is out, fans then have Liberty Day to look forward to on October 26th. As is tradition, this year’s celebration is expected to gift players with free content in the form of armor and weapons.
Unfortunately, to continue delivering performance updates, Arrowhead is postponing the addition of new content. This means we may not see the new Illuminate forces previously leaked to join the fight for democracy by the end of this year.
