Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, was recently interviewed by The Game Business and was asked whether the delay of GTA 6 will affect plans for Helldivers 2 as it will other games. Jorjani shared the common belief that the new Grand Theft Auto will “blot out the sun” for everyone else in the video games industry, but for now the delay gives Arrowhead another “six months of uninterrupted work” before they figure out what to do.

Asked what the GTA 6 delay does to their planning, Jorjani said Arrowhead try “not look too much at what else is happening around the time we’re releasing stuff, but GTA has obviously been very hard to avoid”. The CEO added that “I don’t think you go out and delay stuff until you’re sure that the new date is going to stick, and I think this new date’s going to stick”.

GTA 6 has been delayed to November 19th, 2026. With this in mind, Jorjani said, “ask me again in May of next year what we’re doing then because right now I don’t think we’re doing anything different from November”.

Helldivers CEO Says GTA 6 Release is ‘Going to be Terrible’ for the Rest of Us

Jorjani reflected on his time at Paradox, saying they always had a very strong Q4 as no one else releases grand strategy games in December. Because of their niche audience, Jorjani believes Paradox have no need to care about GTA as they “don’t target the same media” and “they don’t target the same influencers”. However, while Jorjani believes the release of GTA 6 wouldn’t affect a studio like Paradox, the CEO is sure that “for all the rest of us, it’s going to be terrible”.

As stated by The Game Business, the problem with GTA 6 besides its unparalleled hype is that it’s going to completely starve other games of attention from media and influencers. Not only that, but Adam Lieb, CEO of marketing platform Gamesight, has warned that GTA 6 is a “black cloud that looms over everything” because it’s so broad and competes with almost anything including first and third-person single-player and multiplayer shooters. Not only that, but there are reports of it planning to become “the next UGC platform,” meaning not even Fortnite and Roblox are entirely safe.

We will have to wait and see what happens to Helldivers 2 and every other game closer to Fall next year. Right now, Arrowhead is aiming for patches “roughly every two weeks” before hopefully returning to delivering new content by December. We don’t know what new content Arrowhead is officially cooking, but there has been leaked Illuminate Cultists plus a new Stealth Warbond alongside a lava planet straight out of Star Wars.
