According to Deadline.com, a bidding process for the screen rights to PlayStation 3 crime thriller Heavy Rain is nearing a conclusion.

The report puts Unique Features, a firm started by New Line co-founder Bob Shaye and former co-chairman Michael Lynne, as the highest bidder. The pair are believed to have funded the bid with their own money, rather than wait for approval from Warner Bros, with whom they have a first look deal.

Heavy Rain told the complex and connected story of four characters – a father, a photojournalist, a private detective and an FBI profiler – and their search for the Origami Killer.

A deal is expected to be sealed shortly.
