For the month of September, the Nintendo DS achieved sales of 660,000 units, helping the month achieve a 30% increase in hardware sales over the September period in 2005. However, in comparison to August, the hardware business saw a 2.3% drop.

Software sales in September were also, unsurprisingly, dominated by the DS, with 500.000 of the 730,000 sales attributed to the dual screen wonder. PSP sales accounted for 108,000 and PS2 software managed 106,000. New Super Mario Bros. was the top seller for the month, moving 230,000 units and topping the three million mark in total sales.

With the imminent release of the PlayStation 3 and the Wii, and the recent release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, hardware and software should be flying off store shelves in Japan in the months ahead.
