We Dig Games has announced upcoming hamster racing game Hamster Race has changed its name to Hamster Playground.
The change in name has been explained by the team as the game has expanded somewhat. To begin with, the title would see you training hamsters up to run through an obstacle-course like maze. You’ll own a hamster house, and put your squad of hamsters through various minigames and customise them before their races.
However, the team have now decided to expand the idea to incorporate more challenges and more options. There’s now set to be five gameplay modes, that will also include skateboarding hamsters in a drag race. There’s also more to come, which the developers will reveal closer to launch.
You’ll be able to customise your hamsters, naturally, and winning races lets you earn money to expand the hamster house. You’ll buy new equipment and items, all to make your adorable rodents the best hamster racing team there is. Local versus AI and online play is supported as well.
The bad news is the extra modes mean that the game will need a bit of extra time in the oven. The developers had hoped to launch the game in Q1 of this year, but now are aiming for Q3 2022 instead. The good news is, the team are launching a demo as part of Steam Next Fest, which is available now through Steam.
After that, Hamster Playground is hoping to launch Q3 2022 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. You can check out a trailer below.
