Halo dev team recruits the ‘female John Carmack’

Kotaku reports that Corrinne Yu, current Director of Technology at Gearbox, has accepted the position of Principle (Lead) Engine Architect of Halo Franchise Team at Microsoft. Yu will begin work for Microsoft after September 15, 2008.

Corrinne Yu has been called “the John Carmack of female programmers” and is an industry veteran having worked as lead programmer for 3DO’s Asia launch, lead programmer for the Prey Engine and Director of Technology at John Romero’s ION Storm. More recently her role at Gearbox has included work on Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Borderlands.

In a letter sent by Yu further details of the job are revealed:

“I accepted the offer to lead the team to build the engines and games for future Halo’s on Xbox’es and PC’s at Microsoft,” said Yu, later adding. “I am stoked to program and design and build some awesome Halo’s.”
