So far European gamers have been able to get their hands on Halo 3 multiplayer beta entry via a number of competitions cropping up on websites belonging to the Xbox Community Network. These places were very limited though, and the chances are that you’ll want another way to secure your place in the beta.

Microsoft, obviously knowing full well that Xbox gamers would sell a vital organ to get into the beta, has announced that Realtime Worlds’ upcoming Xbox 360 action title Crackdown will include access to the Halo 3 beta.

When the game arrives in Europe on February 23, gamers will “find marked boxes of Crackdown that include an invite to participate in the coveted “Halo 3″ multiplayer beta program. In the spring when the Halo 3 multiplayer beta goes live, owners of Crackdown with access to a hard drive equipped Xbox 360 and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription will then simply need to load up their copy of Crackdown which will act as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace.

It’s not clear whether all copies of Crackdown will include the beta, nor has Microsoft said how many beta places will be available in the promotion. It’s safe to assume, though, that the link to Halo 3 will certainly boost sales of a key new franchise for Microsoft.

Microsoft will be running the same promotion over in North America.
