Bungie’s FPS Halo 3 was the number one played game on Xbox LIVE, Microsoft has revealed.
In a post on his blog, Xbox LIVE director of programming Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, revealed the top 20 LIVE games of 2008, a list that has Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4 at number two and Rockstar’s GTA IV at number three.
The rankings, based on unique users connected to Xbox LIVE, feature a number of high profile demos, including Battlefield: Bad Company at number eight, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed at nine, Mirror’s Edge and Too Human at 20. The Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer beta makes it in at 18.
The Major’s list also revealed the top 20 Xbox LIVE Arcade titles purchased in 2008. Castle Crashers comes in at number one, with Bizarre’s super top down shooter Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 in at number two. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix makes it at number six.
