Battle royale behemoth H1Z1 is coming to the PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play title next month, Daybreak Games has announced.

Originally released for the PC, H1Z1 has been completely reimagined for its release on Sony's home console, and includes a revamped user interface, a new weapon progression system, plus a wealth of extra weapons and gear. In addition, the PS4 version has a control scheme that has been 'tailor-made' to keep players plugging away at the action, while the loot system has been simplified with a grab-and-go equipment feature.

The improvements don't stop there, either. Daybreak Games has also been tinkering away with the HUD, so that it now displays 'vital information at-a-glance,' while the crafting system from the original game has been given the boot completely. H1Z1 has also been fully optimised for Sony's latest hardware, and clocks in at 60fps on the PS4 Pro.

'H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem,' commented the game's producer, Terrence Yee. 'We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play. We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun — an action shooter's dream of fast-paced battle royale.'

H1Z1 will launch in Open Beta for PS4 on May 22. Players will also be able to snap up a bundle featuring cosmetic items and a Dynamic Theme for $29.99, while PS Plus owners can snag 20% off the game if you pre-order.
