ArenaNet has unveiled a new set of customisation attributes for players to build their characters.
Initially a four-attribute system in the first Guild Wars MMO, Guild Wars 2 will feature 13 attributes and 40 traits.
“Two of our four primary attributes – toughness and power – were serving double duty. Toughness improved heals, while power improved damage done by conditions. This essentially left us with two offensive styles: do more damage, or get more critical hits and react to their effects. That wasn’t quite good enough,” stated designer Jon peters in a recent developer update.
“We wanted there to be at least four offensive play styles as well as more diversity of builds overall, so we added several new player attributes to mix things up.”
Four of the available base attributes increase as the user levels, while new attributes increase when players equip gear or choose traits.
Five traits are available to each profession, with each trait having up to 30 points to invest in. In which case, by max level a character will have 70 trait points to experiment with, allowing for more than simply one trait line to be explored in a build.
Guild Wars 2 will begin beta testing this spring.
