Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be absolutely massive when it finally comes out. Despite worries about an age verification being added for online, the game is estimated by many analysts to become the biggest entertainment launch in history, racking up over $7 billion in under two months. While fans are excited to explore the open-world of Vice City as newcomers Lucia and Jason, fans are also curious about the potential for cameos from characters in the past. Unfortunately, GTA icon Lazlow “doubts” he is in GTA 6 as he is now working at a new studio which he believes is reminiscent of the “early years at Rockstar”.

Lazlow “doubts” he is in GTA 6

Lazlow was a huge part of Rockstar for two decades. He was a writer, director, and producer for the Grand Theft Auto series including San Andreas, Vice City, GTA 4, and GTA 5, and he was also part of production for Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, as well as LA Noire and other games from Rockstar before he left the studio in 2020.

In addition to having a part in development, Lazlow had cameos in the GTA games. He was primarily just a voice on the radio, but he became a physical character in GTA 5 and Online. Lazlow left Rockstar in 2020 and has since joined Absurd Ventures founded by former Rockstar Games writer, Dan Houser, in 2021.

Naturally, despite leaving Rockstar, a lot of people have been wondering if Lazlow will have a cameo in GTA 6. When asked about possibly appearing in GTA 6 in a recent interview with Nerd Reactor, Lazlow said, “Well, you know, we left in 2020, so I doubt it”. While Lazlow wouldn’t spoil the surprise if he actually does have a cameo, his response suggests that it is highly unlikely.

It would be disappointing for Lazlow not to appear or at least be heard in any small capacity as it would be the end of a tradition for the Grand Theft Auto series. There’s the possibility Rockstar could include an Easter Egg that hints to the whereabouts or existence of Lazlow, but don’t expect an appearance based on Lazlow’s response.

Lazlow was full of praise for his time at Rockstar, saying, “I loved working on those games [GTA] with Dan and I was on the radio in GTA 3 and all the GTA’s after that, and it was an amazing journey working on GTA for 20 years”.

As for Absurd Ventures, Lazlow heaped praise on the recently-founded studio, saying, “what’s really exciting is the creative team and some others that were there [Rockstar] for two decades have all come to Absurd Ventures and it’s got that creative vibe and grit that reminds me of those early years at Rockstar where we’re working on a lot of different projects and everybody’s throwing in ideas and we’re working on stuff that makes us laugh”.

We cannot wait to see what Absurd Ventures do in the future, but for GTA 6 it is currently slated to come out on May 26th, 2026. There are also rumors of a GTA 4 port for current-gen consoles as well as current-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, but these are not official as of writing.
