Rockstar Games co-founder, Dan Houser, has assured fans GTA 6 “will be great” after confirming he did not write the story or characters. Currently, GTA 6 is on course to come out in May, and so far everything looks incredible. There have recently been leaks Rockstar and Take-Two have attempted to hide, but, for the most part, the developer and publisher have been very quiet about the game, aside from the Take-Two CEO recently saying he’s confident in the release date and that the game will “deliver more value” than its price. Dan Houser has also been very quiet about GTA 6, however, the Rockstar Games co-founder has just confirmed this is the first Grand Theft Auto in many years he did not write.

Dan Houser confirms he did not write any of GTA 6

Dan Houser recently participated in an interview with IGN at LA Comic Con 2025. The Rockstar co-founder rarely ever makes an appearance or sits down for interviews, so this discussion was highly anticipated.

Asked by IGN’s Ryan McAffrey whether it would feel strange playing a Grand Theft Auto completely blind, Houser admitted that it would “In a way”. For GTA 6, Houser acknowledged the sheer size and scope of the game, saying, “I think it be a great privilege to have worked on something that big”.

Houser stated that he “wrote the last 10 or 11 of them [GTA]” and that he thinks the “world had enough GTA from me”. As for whether he contributed at all to GTA 6, Houser confirmed, “It won’t be a story I wrote or a character set I developed”. While confirming no involvement in the writing at all, Houser said “I think it will be exciting [and] The game will be great I’m sure”.

While some Grand Theft Auto players may be worried seeing as GTA 6 is the first not to involve Dan Houser since Grand Theft Auto London, fans needn’t worry too much as GTA 6 is still largely comprised of the same talented developers and writers from Red Dead Redemption 2. Rumpert Humphries was one of the lead writers for Red Dead Redemption 2 and is still at Rockstar presumably as the lead writer for GTA 6, meanwhile, the other RDR2 lead writer, Michael Unsworth, left Rockstar in 2023, suggesting he likely had involvement with the story.

We’re fully confident in GTA 6, and the Take-Two CEO has stressed that Rockstar are betting on themselves to smash the “extraordinary expectations” set by the entire world. Dan Houser isn’t involved with the story, and the iconic Lazlow “doubts” he is in the game as well, but, despite these historic omissions, Grand Theft Auto 6 is still poised to be a marvel when it comes out, and it is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch in history.
