GTA 6 is the most highly anticipated video game of all time, and it’s claimed that Rockstar may follow in the footsteps of Kojima by sending reviewers and content creators to a secret “designated location for days”. Grand Theft Auto 6 is on course to come out on May 26th, and since trailer 2 Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have been very tight lipped about the game. There’s a lot of fear and trepidation about a second delay, but so far concerns are nothing more than speculation. Adding to the daily speculation, it’s claimed that Rockstar may send reviewers to a secret location to review the game.
Rockstar may send GTA 6 reviewers to “designated location”
According to DetectiveSeeds, Rockstar may require media outlets and invited content creators to “come to a designated location for a select number of days in order to review” GTA 6. DetectiveSeeds claims that this information was acquired by “asking an employee with the publisher through mutual connection on LinkedIn under the agreement that I do not put out their name or title”.
While this is by no means official and plans could always change, it wouldn’t be the first time reviewers have been sent to a secret location to review a game. Back in 2015, for Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear Solid, The Phantom Pain, Gamesradar reported that they were invited by Konami to “five day ‘boot camps’ tied to strict NDAs”.
While at these supposed ‘boot camps,’ Gamesradar reported that they were only allowed to play between 9AM to 5PM, resulting in only a “maximum play time of 40 hours, assuming no stoppages for eating, drinking, stretching… or reality”. The struggles with this resulted in reviewers feeling “overwhelmed by side-missions, upgrades and secrets” as they had to rush “trying to complete a 35-50 hour game”.
As for why Konami and Kojima invited reviewers to a secret location, it’s because they wanted pre-release reviews but were wary “Sending out retail review copies would lead to ruinous spoilers”. With how highly anticipated GTA 6 is, Rockstar and Take-Two doing something similar to avoid spoilers would make sense.
If GTA 6 were to follow in the footsteps of Kojima and Konami, it would be interesting how long reviewers get to play as Grand Theft Auto 6 will be much bigger than Metal Gear Solid 5. It’s expected to be the biggest game of all time with over 100 hours worth of content, so how reviewers would be able to experience as much as possible with restrictions in place would be a challenge.
Of course, none of this is official. All we have officially learned about GTA 6 recently is Dan Houser confirming zero involvement with the story and characters.
