Game developer interviewer, Kiwitalkz, has shared that there’s still the possibility GTA 6 might be delayed again as they have “heard conflicting reports internally from different devs in different studios e.g. Bangalore, Edinburgh and San Diego”. Kiwitalkz added that they “can’t seem to get a consensus, it sounds like [Rockstar] are trying to hit it [May 26th, 2026, release date] but it could be delayed again”.

In response to users asking for elaboration, Kiwitalkz shared that he guesses Rockstar is internally “debating whether they can hit that date or not”. Lastly, the interviewer said, “The game is pretty much content complete all of this will be QA, fixing bugs and glitches,” but “there is an insane amount of things to test” and “You only get 1 first impression” with Rockstar and Take-Two wanting to avoid a “cyberpunk situation”.

Kiwitalkz is a prolific interviewer who has interviewed over 150 game developers for their YouTube channel. These interviews include former Rockstar talent, such as an artist who worked on GTA 6 and weighed into the ongoing artificial intelligence debate saying “AI can’t replace people” even if it has “its uses”.

It’s important to clarify that Kiwitalkz is not confirming there will be a second delay, they’re just saying it’s possible based off “conflicting reports” they’ve heard from different developers at different Rockstar Studios.

Second GTA 6 Delay is a Worry for Developers and Publishers

While a second delay for GTA 6 would be disappointing for fans, it’s a bigger worry amongst other publishers and developers. Back in May, Jason Schreier reported for Bloomberg (via Kotaku) that multiple developers anonymously told him that games had been delayed to 2026 to avoid Grand Theft Auto when it was initially pegged for Fall 2025, and now they are hoping it won’t be delayed to late 2026 so plans don’t get scuppered again.

One example cited was a developer on a big multiplayer game saying their title was delayed from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026, and that delaying again would be very expensive and make it harder for the game to be profitable. However, not delaying and landing right next to GTA 6 would be disastrous.

The concern amongst other developers and publishers is obvious as GTA 6 is predicted to be the biggest entertainment launch in history when it eventually comes out. The developer for Ghost of Yotei even said that the delay of Grand Theft Auto into 2026 was a “great day” as it meant Sucker Punch were free to release their sequel to Ghost of Tsushima in October.

Right now, to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto in Spring, there’s a lot of traffic for early 2026. Some of the biggest releases include Resident Evil Requiem for February 27th, plus Crimson Desert, Saros, and 007 First Light all in March. Other big releases announced for next year without a release date include Marvel’s Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Fable, and Halo Campaign Evolved just to name a few.

Take-Two Interactive is set for another earnings call with investors on November 6th, so hopefully we get a definitive answer as to whether GTA 6 is delayed again or not. Hopefully Rockstar is able to hit May next year, but a second delay would be understandable as Grand Theft Auto has “extraordinary” expectations and is set to be the biggest game ever.
