GTA 6 hasn’t even been announced yet, but Rockstar’s talented team is already having to deal with alleged threats of its source code being disseminated across the web.
Source code is the game’s DNA. It contains thousands of lines of code detailing every in-game mechanic.
The fact Rockstar confirmed they suffered a ‘network intrusion’ is a concern for both the gaming company and for gamers looking forward to see the next Grand Theft Auto.
Not only is the ‘hack’ cripplingly unfair on Rockstar’s developers, and wider team, but the reality is that any thing like this has the potential to hurt gamers too.
But there is hope. Today, September 19, Rockstar issued a statement confirming the hack – but went on to confirm they do not anticipate any disruption to ‘live game services’ or any ‘long term effect on the development of ‘ongoing projects’.

The company went on to say they were ‘extremely disappointed’ to have details of the next game shared ‘this way’. The gaming community stands with them.
When the leaked footage made its way online, there was an immediate frenzy with channels – and even media outlets posting early gameplay footage from the unreleased, and clearly unfinished, game. Everyone was desperate to see what they believed to be the next Grand Theft Auto in action.
No products found.
It then sunk in. Reality started to hit home – and the perception soon changed from initial excitement to anger towards the hacker.
Rockstar, too, are now on the offensive – issuing channels that posted the footage with takedown orders. The net is closing in.
Will GTA 6 recover? Yes, it will no doubt be everything gamers hoped it will be. And just has been the case with previous high-profile leaks affecting other games, they won’t be enough to stop the next Grand Theft Auto being a smash hit.
