GTA 5 is celebrating its 11th anniversary. The game first came out in September 2013, so it’s been out for over ten years with Grand Theft Auto 6 hopefully arriving in 2025. Online has been a massive component of the game’s continuing success, and Rockstar has just released a huge update. This GTA 5 Online update has added BattlEye anti-cheat software, and a large portion of the community are pleased by its arrival.

You can now play GTA 5 on mobile thanks to massively improved PC emulators, and for Grand Theft Auto 6 we’re currently still on track for a 2025 release as rumors of a delay have been debunked for now. There hasn’t been much news about the long-anticipated GTA 6 since the release of its first trailer, but we do know a musician has rejected Rockstar’s advances because of a low offer.

While we’re desperate to hear more about Grand Theft Auto 6, today Rockstar has just dropped an update on GTA 5 players out-of-nowhere. This update has added additional anti-cheat software, and most of the GTA Online community appear happy about the addition of BattlEye.

New GTA 5 Online update adds BattleEye anti-cheat

SteamDB shows that GTA 5 has received an update today. It shows that Rockstar has added BattlEye software to the game.

This will conflict with mods, but, fortunately, you can turn the anti-cheat software off for the single-player story mode. Unfortunately, it is not possible turn off for Online as attempting to play multiplayer with the ant-cheat disabled simply results in an error.

To disable for single-player, all you need to do is open the Rockstar Launcher, proceed to Settings, and uncheck BattlEye in the General section. Again, you will not be able to play Online with the anti-cheat disabled.

Reacting to the news, there are many people glad BattlEye has been introduced. This anti-cheat software can be seen in other multiplayer games such as Destiny 2 and PUBG, and its purpose is to stop cheaters.

It will try to combat cheats, and it does have the ability to hardware ban, which means repeated offenders may not be able to return to GTA Online through simply creating multiple accounts.

Reacting to the news shared by Tez2 on Twitter, many players replied, “Better late than never,” “Maybe GTA Online will finally be fun again,” and “About f***ing time”.

While people are hopeful BattlEye will crackdown on cheats, there is pessimism as the anti-cheat is used for Rainbow 6, and that is notorious for its issues with cheaters.
