Last week saw a number of high-profile game releases, but nothing could knock Gran Turismo 4 off the top spot. FIFA Street also did well, moving up one place to No.2. Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 performed well, but given the game’s release on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 2 and impressive review scores this was expected.
It appears that a fair few people took the plunge and gambled on Championship Manager 5 on the PC, making it a new entry and No.4. The best game to be released last week was Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube. While not setting the chart on fire, No.5 is respectable for a single platform release. We would have liked to see it enter a little higher though. Even so, it was the fifth biggest software launch for the GameCube in the UK.
Act of War: Direct Action debuted, rather disappointingly, at No.36. The spectacular looking RTS from Atari has received some good press and we would have expected better sales. Perhaps it will be a slow burner.
This Friday we have a fairly strong line-up of releases, with TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube; Devil May Cry 3 on PlayStation 2; and The Punisher on PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.
