GRID’s development director has revealed that its Stadia port has a 40-car mode that ‘just isn’t possible’ on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of the game (via WccfTech).
Stadia launches in one week, and although it isn’t present in the streaming service’s collection immediately, GRID is taking advantage of Stadia’s novel capabilities. Speaking to WccfTech, development director Mark Green is especially excited about the new hardware and revealed, ‘racing games are particularly sensitive to controller lag and yet I can’t feel any when playing on Stadia, the experience is fantastic.’
The port has ‘only just scratched the surface of what Stadia is capable of’ and will deliver a 40-car mode that could not have been achieved on PC, PlayStation 4, or the Xbox One versions of GRID. ‘The ability of Stadia to talk to other Stadia so quickly transforms some ideas around multiplayer,’ Green explained, and assured that GRID will realise smooth 4K resolutions through the streaming service. He did not provide the reasons why the other platforms wouldn't be able to hack a 40-car mode, but Stadia does have unique features like predicted latency and seamless connectivity.
‘New hardware always gets us excited, it doesn’t matter whether it’s local or remote, and we know we can rely on all the platform holders to come up with amazing new abilities which designers will hungrily try to understand and use them to create great new features within games,’ he concluded. ‘Focussing on Stadia, I think their integration with YouTube may prove to be a masterstroke, leading us to new ways to interact with games.’
Google Stadia will launch on November 19, but not everyone is getting their hardware on day one.
