Having quietly announced the game back in October, Ubisoft has today officially revealed that the sequel to the BAFTA winning tactical combat game is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and PSP. The game is once again in the hands of Ubisoft Paris and Red Storm Studios, and is scheduled for release in spring 2007.

With Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Ubisoft is taking all the successful elements in the original to an unparalleled level of quality – the sophisticated technology, weaponry, graphics, story and online gameplay will heighten the intensity and bring gamers an even more amazing experience,” said said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America.

Building on events from the first game, players are placed in control of the U.S. military’s elite fighting unit, the Ghosts. The year is 2014 and the conflict between Mexican loyalists and insurgent rebel forces has thrown the country into full-scale civil war. The Ghosts are called upon to face an imminent threat to the United States.

Some new features found in GRAW 2 include improved visuals with cutting-edge physics and particle systems, showing players “some of the most intense and realistic explosions, smoke, and environment destruction ever seen in a video game.” We’re also promised dynamic lighting and shadows, and constantly changing weather that will make players adjust to conditions on the fly.

For the first time ever, the Ghosts will actually be defending U.S. soil, taking the fight to never before seen locations, such as mountain terrains, barren deserts, and El Paso Texas.

Ubisoft also says that the game will feature “vastly improved” AI, requiring players to be even more watchful of the opposition. Enemy soldiers will flank your position and even seek out vantage points. Your team mates will also boast improved intelligence, now informing players of danger more accurately, with commands such as “enemy spotted behind red truck ahead.

The Cross-Com returns in the all-new version 2.0. Now not only can you view what friendly forces are seeing in a small screen, but at the click of a button expand this view to fill the screen and gain a more comprehensive image of the battlefield.

Players will also benefit from an expanded array of support when on the battlefield. Be it through commanding lethal air strikes with jet fighters, or using the new Medic class of soldier to heal team mates, including squad leader Scott Mitchell.
