Rockstar Games has announced that in celebration of Grand Theft Auto III’s 10-year anniversary on October 22, 2011, it will launch Grand Theft Auto III for a select new generation of iOS and Android devices in the autumn.

“Grand Theft Auto III showed us the potential of open world games,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “It helped set the vision for the company, and we have been expanding on those possibilities with every game ever since.”

Grand Theft Auto II will be available on the following devices.

Apple iOS Devices: iPad 2, iPhone 4S

Android Phones: Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2

Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

In addition, the Rockstar Warehouse is relaunching and will feature special anniversary edition items throughout October. This includes a limited edition action figure of Grand Theft Auto III lead character, Claude. The action figure will be on sale on October 20 priced $149.99.

So that’s no GTA3 for the regular iPhone 4 or some of the more recent dual core Android devices such as the HTS Sensation. Seems a little bizarre to cut off such a large iOS audience.
