Sony and Polyphony Digital’s racing game franchise Gran Turismo is set to become a major motion picture, reports TheWrap.

Hot on the heels of Universal’s The Fast & The Furious – now the studio’s biggest franchise – DreamWorks’ Need for Speed, and Legendary’s Hot Wheels, the Sony movie will be produced by Fifty Shades of Grey duo Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

Sony executives Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will oversee the project.

Gran Turismo has sold in excess of 70 million copies, making it a brand recognisable worldwide.

Gran Turismo 6 will be released later this year for PS3.

While Need for Speed has an element of cool about it, which could translate well to the big screen, we can’t get so excited about a movie based on a game which features driving tests.
