Gran Turismo 7 will be released for PS4 and is between one and two years off being ready, Polyphony Digital producer Kazunori Yamauchi has told Famitsu.

“The PlayStation 4 game which we’ll likely call GT7 will be done in about a year or two, I think, and I think the community aspect’s going to be vital there as well,” revealed Yamauchi.

Before we see that there’s the little matter of finishing Gran Turismo 6, which is scheduled for release on PS3 on December 6 in the US and Europe, and a day earlier in Japan. So how complete is the game?

“It’s really hard to give an accurate answer to that,” said Yamauchi. “The basic components are already complete, so overall I’d have to say about 80 percent.

“The physics engine, the steering controls; those parts of the user interface are things that we fine tune-right up to the very end. Things like the game modes; I can say that those are complete.”

Let’s hope we don’t see a repeat of GT5, which suffered a last minute delay of three weeks. A similar problem this time around would make the title unavailable for Christmas.
