Gran Turismo 7 is in development at Polyphony Digital, CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Yamauchi revealed “we are working on the title,” but added that he doesn’t think “it’ll make this year”.

He also said that Gran Turismo 7 would likely skip a Prologue release, with Polyphony instead focussing on the full release.

Standard cars from Gran Turismo’s PS2 era will likely remain in Gran Turismo 7, too, Yamauchi said, although some of them may be upgraded to Premium, highly detailed models.

“I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars,” he added. “Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we’re more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars.”

Sony has yet to formally announce Gran Turismo 7, but Yamauchi told fans last September to expect a release on PS4 in “a year or two”.
