Re-mastering both God of War PSP games in full HD for the PS3 God of War: Collection Volume II has dished up its share of challenges, Ready At Dawn Studios has revealed.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, the game’s Art Director Nathan Phail-Liff went into great detail about the painstaking development process behind the forthcoming collection, which brings 1080p visuals, improved character models and full stereoscopic 3D to the table.

“We ended up going through every single character in the game and doubling or tripling polygon count by hand, as well as up-rezing and re-painting every texture across both games at 4x resolution on both characters and environments,” revealed Phail-Liff, speaking of the graphical leap presented by the PS3 collection.

According to the developer, the game also employs special ‘near-screen fading’ and ‘camera focal plane compensation’ techniques for a smoother 3D experience. “The quality of the final result of the 3D on Collection II so surprised us that it actually sold myself and a number of others on the team 3D TVs in general,” admitted Phail-Liff.

God of War Collection Volume II hits PlayStation 3 on September 16.
