Atari and Sony have revealed Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a new downloadable game scheduled for a spring 2011 release on PSN, Xbox LIVE Arcade and Windows PC.

Wanako, the studio behind Assault Heroes, is in charge of development.

Players will take control of the rookie buster, hired by the ghostbusters in 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game. None of the actors who appeared in the films are set to appear in the game.

The game will feature up to four-player co-op ghost busting, playable locally on one machine or online, and promises a new supernatural threat and gigantic bosses.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game sold over a million units, but certainly could have been a better game.

The downloadable follow-up looks to be a much cheaper development – the earlier game is reported to have cost in the region of $15-$20 million – and as such we can’t be too shocked to learn that the game won’t feature any of the original cast.

As an overhead, cooperative shooter this has a chance of being pretty good.
