Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier will be released in the UK on May 25, Ubisoft has announced.
The heavily delayed title, which had been expected in March 2012, will be available on Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. A PC version will release at a later date.
Adrian Lacey, IP development director at Ubisoft Studios – France, explained the reason for the delay:
“Today we are feature complete in our MP, Single player and 4 player coop campaign modes. We have taken the decision to move the date in order to ensure that all these ingredients are pushed to the highest level and provide a truly unique shooter experience.”
Lacey added: “The Ghost Recon franchise is known for setting the standard of high definition gaming and we believe the extra couple of months will allow us to reach that goal. We would like to thank all Ghost Recon fans for their patience and look forward to unveiling some exciting new elements in the coming weeks.”
A multiplayer beta will be available in April for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
After such a troubled development it’s hard not to expect a bit of a train wreck, but we are talking about one of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises and the publisher won’t wish to damage the franchise by releasing an under par title.
Splinter Cell: Conviction suffered a similar development hell, but finally arrived as a quality entry in the stealth series. All is certainly not lost for Future Soldier.
It’s also interesting to see that the Xbox 360 exclusive beta is now coming to PlayStation 3 too.
