Yesterday, the second of the planned Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter chats took place, this time focussing on the Xbox 360 version of the game. On hand to answer questions were Christian Allen, lead multiplayer designer, and Gilles Matouba, game designer. The chat began with discussions of the online aspects of the game. It was revealed that the game will not support clans, at least not at launch, but it will feature online co-op play, with exclusive missions for the Xbox 360, and will allow for up to 16 players to take part in online matches.
“Due to the early stage of Xbox Live on 360, we are not currently planning to support clans initially at launch,” said Allen. “Yes, we are fully supporting Co-op play, both with the customizable game mode system, and an all new co-op campaign…once you finish the SP campaign, you have a whole new game to start.“
The game is also said to be pushing the power of the Xbox 360, making full use of its three cores, thanks to a game engine which “has been developed specifically to use the multiprocessing power of next-gen consoles.“
“We were able to push the power of the 360 using our Multi Core technology, which means we can push the 3 processors to the max in terms of animation, post fx, HDR and so on,” said Matouba.
When asked what was best about the Xbox 360, the answer wasn’t the horse power or the controller, but the new Live interface. “The greatest thing for us is the new live interface and rich presence. Now players have a consistent profile, friends list, etc,” said Allen. “This takes the work off of the plates of the developers, and ensures the players have a consistent experience across all Live games.“
One issue to crop up on the chat was the apparent lack of a first-person view for the Xbox 360 version. This was later cleared up on the Ubisoft forums where Allen posted to confirm that the game does in fact have both, first-person and over-the-shoulder views. Things are certainly looking promising for Advanced Warfighter, and the game is said to be looking much better now, with post fx, HDR lighting and animations in place.
