As reported by Gematsu, it’s been revealed in Sony’s financial results for the second quarter ending September 2025 that Ghost of Yotei sales have topped 3.3 million. This is as of November 2nd, so it’s just slightly over a month after the game released on October 2nd, and it compares nicely to Sucker Punch’s predecessor, Tsushima.

We know that Ghost of Tsushima sold 2.4 million copies globally in its first three days after releasing on July 17th, 2020. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Herman Hulst, then announced on November 13th, 2020, that “Ghost of Tsushima is [Sony’s] fastest-selling first party original PS4 game with more than 5 million copies sold since its debut in July”.

It’s impossible to firmly say Ghost of Yotei will match Tsushima by selling more than 5 million copies by February, but it is on course having already sold 3.3 million in just one month. Other factors to consider include Tsushima launching on the PS4, which as of September 30th, 2020, had sold more than 113.5 million units. Meanwhile, as per Gematsu, PS5 lifetime units sold globally have only just topped 84.2 million.

In addition to its impressive sales, PlayStation Blog Japan revealed that Ghost of Yotei was the highest-selling PSN store game in Japan and was only second to Battlefield 6 in the United States for October. It was also second in Europe.

Ghost of Yotei is a Worthy Sequel to Tsushima

Ghost of Yotei is a phenomenal experience and is definitely a worthy sequel to Tsushima. It’s more of Tsushima’s artistic brilliance, open-world freedom, and respect of Japanese culture combined with Tsushima’s fun combat but expanded.

The biggest concern heading into Yotei was replacing Jin with Atsu. Sucker Punch previously replaced beloved protagonist Cole MacGrath of the InFamous series with Delsin for Second Son, and it didn’t quite work out. Thankfully, Atsu is a great protagonist equal to Jin, and for Erika Ishii it was the “completion of a dream” as part of a fantastic leading performance inspired by the likes of Kill Bill and Clint Eastwood.

Sucker Punch haven’t decided yet whether their next game will be more Ghost or a return to Sly Cooper. However, if we are to get another Ghost game, expect it to be set in another time period as Sucker Punch have said they’re interested in continuing to explore different time periods and settings in Japanese history.

In addition to topping 3.3 million sales as of November 2nd, it was reported at the end of October that Ghost of Yotei had already beaten the lifetime sales of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PS5.
