Ghost of Yotei reviews are now out, and so far its Metacritic aggregate surpasses Tsushima. The release date for Yotei isn’t until October 2nd so we still have a while to wait until we can revisit Japan, but final impressions are extremely positive. Former PlayStation President, Shuhei Yoshida, hailed Yotei as “even better” than Tsushima after he briefly got his hands on the game earlier this year, and, judging by all the glowing reviews, fans of GoT have another excellent adventure from Sucker Punch to anticipate.
How Ghost of Yotei Metacritic reviews compare to Tsushima
As of writing, Ghost of Yotei has an 87 on Metacritic based on 101 reviews for the PS5. In comparison, back in 2020 for the PS4, Ghost of Tsushima received an 83 based on 122 reviews.
There is the caveat that the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut also received an 87 for PS5 based on 73 reviews in 2021, but, as of right now, Ghost of Yotei’s reviews are faring better than the original version of Tsushima. It’s the same on Open Critic where currently Ghost of Yotei has an 89 Top Critic Average with 100% Critics Recommended compared to Ghost of Tsushima’s 84 Top Critic Average and 88% Critics Recommended.
In our own Ghost of Yotei review, we praised the game’s sublime visuals along with its stunning vistas, exhilarating combat, and fun side quests. We don’t feel the game’s perfect as in some instances it is too much style over substance, but it is a game fans of Tsushima should thoroughly enjoy,
Ghost of Yotei is the big PS5 console exclusive for 2025 alongside Death Stranding 2. As for 2026, Sony’s September State of Play confirmed that Soras from Returnal developer, Housemarque, is scheduled for March, meanwhile, the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine is planned for Fall.
There’s no lack of fantastic PS5 exclusives incoming, and the good news is that Ghost of Yotei is yet another fantastic game from Sony. The delay of GTA 6 was a “great day” for Sucker Punch as it meant they could deliver Ghost of Yotei this year, and we absolutely cannot wait for everyone to experience its glory.
