It’s been a fantastic year for video games so far. We’ve already been blessed with incredible epics such as Split-Fiction and the remarkable Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and there are more massive games to anticipate, even in-spite of the delay to GTA 6. One of the most exciting games still to come out is Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch’s sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. It’s not too far away, and former Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Shuhei Yoshida, has sworn Ghost of Yotei is “even better” than Tsushima after getting to play the game.

Yoshida vows Ghost of Yotei is “even better” than Tsushima

French PlayStation outlet, PlayStation Inside, has just published an English translated interview with former Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Shuhei Yoshida. The interview is worth reading in its entirety as it covers a wide range of interesting topics such as the Nintendo Switch 2, price increases, AI, and a lot more.

In regard to Ghost of Yotei, Yoshida was asked, “How do you explain the success of the first game [Ghost of Tsushima], and is there a formula for Western games to work in Japan”.

Yoshida admittedJapan is a difficult market for Western games,” and developers “need an understanding of Japan and its culture, especially for games like Ghost of Tsushima and Assassin’s Creed Shadows”.

As for how Ghost of Tsushima was able to capture an authentic essence of Japan, Yoshida discussed how “Sucker Punch worked extensively with a Japanese producer at SIE, as well as colleagues at Japan Studio”. Sucker Punch also “visited Tsushima Island and made a real effort to immerse themselves in its history and traditions,” and the game’s success “has even boosted tourism on Tsushima Island”.

Lastly, Yoshida said, “Ghost of Tsushima felt incredible to play, and having played Ghost of Yotei at several stages of its development, I can assure you that it will be even better and that Sucker Punch has done it again!”.

This is fantastic to hear from Yoshida. Ghost of Tsushima was one of the PS4’s best console exclusives, and to hear Yotei is “even better” has us pumped. The release date for Ghost of Yotei is officially October 2nd, and you can pre-order the game right now from the PSN store.

In other PlayStation news, it’s just been announced that Gears of War is coming to PS5.
