Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has detailed the enhancements that’ll be coming to the game courtesy of an update for the Xbox One X release. The standout feature is the opportunity to play the game’s campaign and Horde mode at a frame rate of ‘up to 60fps in 1080p’ in the game’s Performance mode. The patch will also include a Visual mode, which allows for the Campaign and Horde modes to be played in 4K at 30fps.

As well as the higher frame rate, those who choose to play in the Performance mode will benefit from the inclusion of higher resolution textures as a result of ‘some of the new enhanced graphical features’ that are ‘available in Visuals mode,’ according to the game’s developer. While the Visual mode quadruples the resolution, as said above, it will also sport ultra quality textures providing ‘a wealth of new and improved graphical features all at 4K resolution.’

Some of the tweaks The Coalition was able to make to the game as a result of the Xbox One X’s power include  enhanced light shafts, dynamic shadows, increased draw distances, superior reflections, and enhanced character textures.

Finally the competitive PvP has been confirmed to run at 4K/60fps, and will feature adaptive resolution scaling, which changes the resolution depending on what’s happening on screen so as not to affect the frame rate too much.

On the original Xbox One (andor the Xbox One S), Gears of War 4’s Campaign and Horde modes ran at 30fps in 1080p, which makes the enhancements powered by the Xbox One X all the more impressive.
