Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford has reached out to British artist Olly Moss after it became apparent the reversible cover artwork for Borderlands 2 was partially lifted from some of his work.
The plagiarism was brought to public attention on Friday when Moss tweeted his disappointment.
“I’m a huge Gearbox fan so I was really disappointed to see this image inside the Borderlands 2 box,” said Moss.
“Not angry, just disappointed,” he added. “One of my favourite developers. Would have jumped at the opportunity to work with them. Oh well.”
Thankfully, Pitchford is making efforts to remedy the situation.
“You’re amazing. Inspiration is part of art and you’ve inspired us. But the bit that was lifted is uncool, so… consequences,” said Pitchford.
“Check your e-mail. We should be working together to do it right and legit.”
And it seems Moss is willing to forgive and forget.
“Haha! This whole thing is so far from a big deal,” replied Moss. “I wish I’d never even said anything.”
Gamers will know Moss for his work on the cover for Resistance 3, but has also created posters for The Dark Knight Rises and Moon.
