Speaking to journalists after his keynote speech yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison has confirmed that the final PlayStation 3 controller and the console’s launch line-up will be revealed at E3 in May.

When asked about the games on show during his speech as being potential launch titles he replied saying “all of that will be answered at E3,” and talking about the PlayStation 3’s ‘Boomerang’ controller commented that “the controller will be revealed at E3.” So, E3 it is then.

The subject of the PlayStation 3 hard drive was also brought up, but once again firm details were nowhere to be seen. “Every single game will support a hard drive,” commented Harrison, leaving the possibility that the device would ship separately to the console as a firm possibility. On the manufacturing side of things, Harrison stated that one million units per month “is the fastest [production rate] we’ve ever had.” It’s still hard to believe that there won’t be huge worldwide shortages come November.

Could Sony have another surprise up its sleeve with the new PlayStation 3 controller or will it just be a slightly modified version of the Dual Shock 2? All should be revealed at E3 in about six weeks.
