The recent Game Developers Choice Awards managed to provide no real shocks, with Half-Life 2 picking up the majority of awards and Gabe Newell uttering some naughty swears in his acceptance speech.

More than a thousand people were in attendance at the awards show, with the honours being as follows:

Best Game – Half-Life 2

Best New Studio – Crytek

Best Audio – Halo 2

Best Character Design – Half-Life 2

Best Game Design – Katamari Damacy (or Damashii, if you’re a giant pedant from hell)

Best Technology – Half-Life 2

Best Visual Arts – World of Warcraft

Best Writing – Half-Life 2

Innovation Award – Donky Konga, I Love Bees and Katamari Damacy/shii.

The word ‘best’ has lost all meaning.

On receiving the Best Game award, Mr Newell said: “So awards like these are sort of a double-edged sword. On the one hand I think it’s recognition for all the work that went into it. And I also think they’re a little bit of a message that you guys better not f(naughty)k up your next one because we’re all going to be watching.”

Wash your mouth out with soap and straight to bed with no supper, Gabe.
