The game takes place in 1930’s England, where a group of girls have formed a club called the Red Crayon Aristocrats. The club devises a series of rules known as the Rule of Rose, which must be obeyed by the club’s members. In the game players take on the role of Jennifer, a young girl, who after a frightening encounter with a young boy on a bus, begins a descent into the nightmarish world of the Rule of Rose.
The game doesn’t feature killer mutants or zombies, instead, the eerie little girls of the Red Crayon Aristocrats and the power games they play. With Jennifer is her Labrador Brown, and together they must explore and solve puzzles, making choices to either move up the hierarchy of the Red Crayon Aristocrats, or find a way to escape from the nightmare.
The game is said to feature astonishing in-game graphics and striking CG Cinematics from the people that worked on the Onimusha and Genji games. Because there are many different choices and routes to take in the game, different endings will play out, meaning you can go back and experience the game again without feeling that you’re re-stepping the exact same thing.
Rule of Rose is scheduled for release only on the PlayStation 2 in October.
