GameStop may have stock of PlayStation 4 consoles freely available to buy off the shelf on launch day, the retailer has suggested.

The US chain tucked a note away in a press release confirming its PS4 launch plans overnight, stating that “while demand is extremely high, customers who did not pre-order a console are encouraged to contact their store location or www.gamestop.com to check availability”.

Sony has previously confirmed that it is holding back some stock of PS4 hardware to allow customers to walk into a store and buy one at launch.

Launch day stock of the console has officially been sold out for months, however, with retailers now taking orders for the second wave of units. The console is thought to have received over 1.5 million pre-orders.

PlayStation 4 goes on sale in North America this Friday, November 15, and in the UK on November 29.
