Gamescom’s organisers have announced that this year’s gamescom attracted over 275,000 visitors.

Despite the notable absence of Nintendo and Microsoft from the fourth year of the show, the Cologne event also featured 600 exhibitors – an 8 per cent increase from last year.

Show organisers were also pleased to pat themselves on the back after avoiding a repeat of last year, which saw painfully long queues and cramped conditions as organisers struggled to cope with visitor demand. Floorspace at gamescom 2012 was increased by 15 per cent to 140,000 square meters and the ticketing system was overhauled.

“The innovative ticketing concept for individual days of the trade fair and the entry management system worked without a hitch and contributed significantly to the improved quality of the event,” said Koelnmesse managing director Katharina C. Hamma.

Gaming highlights of gamescom 2012 included reveals of Media Molecule’s Tearaway, strong showings for Assassin’s Creed III, Dishonoured and DmC, alongside the League of Legends European Regional Finals.

The event also attracted over 5,300 journalists from 54 countries, because planet Earth absolutely needs over 5000 people writing up information about the new 10-point loadout system in Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Gamescom 2013 will take place between Wednesday August 21 and Sunday August 25.
