GamePro, one of the world’s oldest gaming magazines, has been shut down by US publisher IDG.
The first issue of GamePro appeared way back in April 1989, with new editions published on a monthly basis. In October this year the mag was rebranded as GamePro Quarterly, but November’s debut proved to be the first and last issue under this new strategy.
The GamePro site, established in 1998, has also been closed. As reported by Industry Gamers, the brand will now live on as the in-house gaming channel on the PCWorld web site.
IDG will also make bespoke games content for vendors and events, via a business it’s calling GamePro Custom Solutions. This outfit will be overseen by GamePro president Marci Yamaguchi Hughes.
“The US editorial and business staff worked hard to earn a passionate, loyal following for GamePro and I am grateful for their dedication and hard work over the years,” said Mike Kisseberth, head of IDG’s consumer and small business media group.
“GamePro, like all businesses, must keep up with industry changes and economic realities. Marci and her colleagues have tremendous expertise in the games arena, and now they will be putting that knowledge to work for the brands that gamers love.”
Best of luck to all the former staff, whatever they may be moving on to.
