With Android devices being so susceptible to piracy, Paris-based developer Gameloft is introducing a new subscription model to help increase revenue on the platform.
Gameloft Club – currently being test-run in the UK – lets players choose one game from Gameloft’s catalogue of titles each week, for the rolling price of 99p. This means for £4 per month, subscribers will be entitled to four games.
Gameloft has said that the the service will be limited to Android HD+ devices, where – presumably – potential customers are more likely to drop the cash on a subscription.
The open source Android operating system is renowned for its piracy rates and weak investment returns for developers. While other developers have embraced the freemium model to help combat this, it’s encouraging to see Gameloft Club try something different.
