Following on from Virgin’s announcement that selected flagship stores will be open from midnight the herald the DS launch, Game have joined the party by announcing that 150 selected stores in the UK and Ireland will also be open to allow gamers to get their hands on the latest console to hit the market.
Speaking of the decision, Robert Quinn, UK sales director for Game UK, said “Timing is crucial with this type of `must-have’ technology. We know that customers want it as soon as it’s released – and that means the minute, not the day.”

“We’re working round the clock so that our customers will be the first to play the DS. Video games are massively popular in the UK, and new launches attract a lot of excitement.”
He’s not wrong, either, with previous midnight launches for games such as Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas proving to be popular among folk desperate to be the envy of their mates. Heck, I even recall the Windows 98 midnight launch at PC World going down a storm. Maybe folk just like to go somewhere after kicking-out time at their local?
