Game Retail has announced plans to drop the Gamestation brand, according to an online report.

The move will see all of Gamestation’s 122 stores rebranded to operate under the GAME label, MCV claims.

It’s not yet known when the changes will be rolled out.

MCV claims that the announcement was made during the GAME Conference today.

VideoGamer.com has also learned that staff were informed of the decision to rebrand stores earlier this week.

Gamestation was founded in York in 1993, before being acquired by Blockbuster in 2002. Blockbuster later sold the brand to The GAME Group in mid-2007.

Numerous Gamestation stores were closed following the announcement that The GAME Group had entered administration in March.

Expect more information on GAME and Gamestation’s future next week.
