Update: GAME has issued a statement confirming it is working with its banking partners to urgently resolve the issue.

“Yesterday we became aware of an issue with some isolated orders. This has impacted a number of customers who pre-ordered the Wii U exclusive, Super Mario Maker. Customers may see, in some cases, duplicated billing for their order, which appears as a pending transaction on their account,” said Charlotte Knight, UK Retail MD at GAME. “We are working closely with our banking partners to resolve this issue urgently.

“If you find you are affected, our customer service team can be contacted on this dedicated hotline number 01256 784400 or email us at [email protected]

“Thank you for your patience and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Original Report: UK games retailer GAME has charged some customers nearly £235 for pre-orders of Super Mario Maker, after a mix-up which saw up to five times the correct amount taken from customers’ accounts.

The platformer creation game launches this Friday, September 11, and costs £33.99 on Game.co.uk. But some users took to Twitter to complain they’d been charged, in some cases, four or five times that amount.

The retailer did later apologise via its official Game Helps Twitter account, stating: “The GAME Team have investigated the issues surrounding orders of Super Mario Maker. Said issues will be resolved within 24 hours. Apologies once again and thank you for your patience.”
