Cancellations of “a small number” of Borderlands 2: Ultimate Loot Chest Edition pre-orders at GAME were due to “customer banking issues”, the retailer has claimed.
In a statement issued to VideoGamer.com about the cancellations, which saw customers’ pre-orders of the £99.99 SKU cancelled without explanation, GAME said:
“A small number of pre-orders of Borderlands 2: Ultimate Loot Chest Edition have been cancelled as a result of customer banking issues, which are out of our control.
“Stock is still currently available for all of these unsuccessful orders, so customers can reorder their copies though our Customer Services team.”
Pre-order customers first raised concerns about their order being cancelled on Twitter on Friday evening.
At the time GAME acknowledged that a few people had been “experiencing an issue”, but didn’t explain what the issue was.
It still isn’t known whether the issue is related to problems with customers’ banks, or a lack of funds. One pre-order customer, however, claims that he had the appropriate funds in his account.
“@GAMEdigital My borderlands £99 order was just cancelled but the funds are in my account,” he said. “Why GAME? #fail #badaervice”
Another customer affected by the cancellations later told VideoGamer.com that GAME claimed his “preorder was cancelled due to [his] bank’s refusal of the charge”.
“At point of cancellation there wasn’t much apart from a short Twitter message (the guy was on his hols) stating are pre-orders are safe and that we should contact CS on Monday,” he said.
“I did and was directed to their webchat service where I gave my phone number to them. Speaking to CS revealed that my preorder was cancelled due to my bank’s refusal of the charge. A new order was made a couple of minutes later.”
If you’ve been affected by the cancellations, GAME recommends that you contact customer services to get a copy re-ordered.
“The quickest way for a customer to reorder is to use the GAME webchat service and have their previous order number ready so their account can be matched up,” the retailer continued.
“They can get to the webchat service by going to www.game.co.uk/contact and clicking on the ‘Need Help’ image at the bottom of the page.”
