UPDATE: Yoshida’s clarified Keighley’s comments, stating that the update won’t allow players to turn off the light completely but will allow you to dim it.

As you were.

ORIGINAL REPORT: An upcoming PlayStation 4 firmware update will introduce the option to disable the DualShock 4 light bar, according to an update from games journalist Geoff Keighley.

“Just interviewed [Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida]”, Keighley tweeted, “and he said that upcoming PS4 firmware will let you turn off light bar on controller!”

The decision appears to mark a U-turn from Sony who previously said that it had no plan to introduce an update to disable the feature.

The ability to turn off the DualShock 4 light bar has often been requested by fans who have found themselves distracted by the light.

A timeframe for the firmware update was not revealed.
